Since summertime is the most active season of the year, it’s no wonder it’s the time when you’re most likely to get hurt. This month, to honor National Injury Prevention Day, we decided to share some tips and tricks for preventing injuries while enjoying your summer activities.

Don’t Forget to Stretch

A proper warm-up and cool down before your exercise routine will significantly reduce the risk of injury. In the summer, our bodies are constantly exposed to warmer temperatures, which means that our muscles are more fluid and ready move. However, don’t rely on the heat of the day to give you the proper warm up you need. Before any physical activity, be sure to get your heart pumping and your blood circulating through your limbs. A cool down and stretch after your exercise routine will help prevent muscle cramping and aching.

Wear Protective Gear

Summer months are short and precious, which makes some of us throw caution to the wind and jump right into activities without spending a few minutes to fit ourselves with the proper gear. This summer, do your body a big favour by wearing the appropriate safety gear, like:

Avoid accidents this season by not taking unnecessary risks. Teaching your kids how to enjoy their freedom responsibly will give you peace of mind while you’re at work. Show them how to avoid accidents by the pool or biking on the road, and ensure they understand proper conduct during a thunderstorm. There is so much fun to be had this summer that just a little bit of precaution will make sure everyone is safe.
